And suddenly, all light was gone.

Yes, it had been dark before, but true darkness is incomparable with the mere absence of a light source. This was no cloud over the moon or advancing night; this was Shadow itself, an all-encompassing inky blackness that ate anything it fell on. It was every passionate, hidden feeling that had ever existed, in all its glory—hatred, secrets, love, death—given form. It was a shifting gradient of black. Like going blind, but in hell. They were no longer in the cave, that was for certain.

Zorc let the spirits of the dead—for who had more power over the hours of fear and burial and ghosts than he, besides Osiris and Anubis?—swirl around the two of them.

Then he picked up the boy in his own hand. It was like a human child holding a tiny doll, so easily could he toss or crush Bakura. Protection, indeed; it was a mercy to keep Bakura alive even when he was tossing and fighting.

“I am the lord of darkness, Bakura, and you were born to serve me.”

Bakura could feel a whole new kind of panic racing up his spine. Like the darkness that had held him just a moment ago, it caressed him, prodded him, threatened to tear him apart. He stiffened, unwittingly making himself seem all the more like a doll in the monster’s claw.

He was not a stranger to the feeling of spirits. Those of Kul Elna practically swarmed him at night and invaded his dreams. But these were different. These were not lost spirits searching desperately for the place of rest they had been denied. These were the souls of the damned. He could feel them smother him, a reminder of just what the stakes were with his own village. It was not a welcome one. The boy was soon choking and gagging in pitiful flails of his limbs.

However, he stilled at the voice. It held authority he could not refuse. With a swallow, he struggled fruitlessly to adjust his eyes to the darkness, head tilting to find the source of the call to him. The words confused him, and disturbed him. Born? How long had this creature been stalking him at the heels of his shadow? Frightened, he blinked his useless eyes. 

“Lord of darkness…” he repeated in a hushed, abnormally subdued tone. “You mean, like Anubis?” He held no faith in the Egyptian gods any longer, not as omnipotent beings, at any rate. He could, however, concede that there were being of great power. Was this “lord of darkness” one of them?

ok so i’m not into character bashing and gir is a cute mascot but i do imagine that there are people who love gir who’ve never seen invader zim

I adore Gir. But I also love the other characters. They’re all great characters, and I will admit that for once I would love to own an Invader Zim shirt with Invader Zim on it for once.
